Holiday Restrictions

Permitted loads or vehicles will be restricted from travel on the following Holidays:

  • New Years Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Divisible Loads

Permitted cargo must be reduced to its lowest possible weights and dimensions.  Loads that are permitted for over-dimensions must be loaded onto trailer in such a manner as to achieve the lowest possible dimensions.  Buckets, blades, counterweights, etc. must be removed to reduce size and weight if they cause cargo to be over-dimension, or over-weight.

Exceptions

If items or attachments are reasonably removable, they must be removed.  If removed items are part of the main cargo being shipped, they may be shipped on the same trailer as the main cargo as long as they do not cause the load to be over-weight.  If so, items or attachments must be shipped as a separate load.

Restricted Travel

Permitted loads or vehicles are restricted from travel during inclement weather such as heavy rain, snow, ice, sleet, high winds, etc.

If traveling on the Milwaukee Expressway, permitted loads may not be operated between 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. and between 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and between 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 11:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Maximum allowed dimensions on the Milwaukee Expressway are 100' long x 11' wide x 13'6ö high.

Spring Weight Restrictions

Restricted weights on certain highways will be in effect from mid-March to mid-May.  When weight restrictions are in effect, restrictions will be posted to this States page.  Further, any Seasonal restrictions will be posted onto applicants approved permit.

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are over 16' wide and 150,000 lbs. or more are considered Super-loads.  The State of Wisconsin has no set limits on length, and height for Super-load determinations.  These determinations are made on a case by case basis depending on actual dimensions, and the route that will be necessary to travel.  Loads exceeding 16' wide and 150,000 lbs. may incur a fee to cover application review costs.  Applicants must submit information including axle weights, axle spacing, and a drawing/diagram of proposed cargo showing full dimensions.  Super-load applications should be allowed seven (7) business days for process approval.
