Notes:
1.) Utah requires a written test and classroom training for escorts. Utah escort certification has
reciprocity with any state that has accredited course and issues certification card.
2.)Utah DOT may require escort vehicles at its discretion when sight distance is deficient or when
the route requires it for safety reasons (i.e. - turning and twisting on canyon roads).
3.) front escorts must use height pole over 16' high.

Overhang Requirements:

Maximum legal overhang allowed is 3' (three feet) in front and 6' (six feet) in rear. Overhang exceeding these dimensions will require a over length permit.

Police Escorts:

$75.00 per hour per Trooper + $0.50 per mile, round trip - 2 hour minimum.

Permits Valid For:

Single Trip Permits are valid for four (4) consecutive days.

Operating Time

Permitted loads are allowed travel from one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset.  Upon special request, permitted loads that do not exceed 92' long x 10' wide and legal height may travel twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

Weekend Travel

Permitted loads are allowed travel on both Saturday and Sunday, from one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset.

Divisible Loads

Permitted loads must be reduced to their lowest possible dimensions and weights.

Exceptions

Blades, buckets, counterweights, etc. may stay attached to main cargo as long as they do not exceed 16' wide.  Buckets, blades, counterweights, etc. may be hauled on the same trailer as main cargo as long as it is a part of the equipment being hauled.  If detached items cause load to be overweight, they must be removed and shipped as a separate load.

Restricted Travel

Permitted travel is restricted from 6:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in the following Counties: Box County, Elder County, Weber County, Davis County, Salt Lake County, and Utah County.  All highways south of exit 360, all highways North of SR75 exit 265, and SR68 M.P. 16 must follow the above restrictions as well.

Permitted loads are restricted from travel during inclement weather such as driving rain, high winds, snow, sleet, ice, etc.

Spring Weight Restrictions

There are no Seasonal Weight Restrictions for the State of Utah.  However, if necessary, there will be certain highway closures if weather causes.  If this is the case, applicants will notified upon application of permits.  NO MAJOR ROADS WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO SEASONAL WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS.

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are 17' wide x 17'6รถ high and 125,000 lbs. or more are considered Super-loads.  Loads that are permitted for length will be determined on a case by case basis as there is no set maximum.  This will depend on the actual length of the load, and the route being traveled.  Applications for loads over 200,000 lbs. must also include a Bill of lading, or an invoice showing proof of actual weight.  The State of Utah considers any load requiring bridge analysis and special routings to be a Super-load.  Diagrams of truck, trailer, and cargo configurations are required along with the proposed travel routes.

Super-load applications should be allowed up to four (4) days for processing and approval.
