Operating Time

Permitted loads are allowed travel from one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset.  Loads that are permitted for over-weight only, and are capable of traveling with the flow of traffic are allowed travel at nighttime as well.

Weekend Travel

Permitted loads that exceed 110' long x 10'6" wide and 108,000 lbs. are restricted from traveling during the weekends.  If load does not exceed these dimensions, travel is allowed on Saturday and Sunday from one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset.

Divisible Loads

Permitted loads must be reduced to their lowest possible size and weight.  Items that have been removed to reduce size or weight must be shipped as separate loads.

Blades, buckets, counterweights, etc. can remain attached for shipment as long as they do not cause the load to require over-weight permits.  If items must be removed, they must be shipped as a separate load.

Restricted Travel

Travel is restricted in the city of Rutland from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  All other restrictions will be noted on permit.  Permits will not be issued for movements of loads in excess of 100' long x 10'6" wide and 108,000 lbs. on Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday and between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Permitted loads are restricted from travel during inclement weather such as driving rain, snow, sleet, ice, high winds, etc.

Spring Weight Restrictions

Roads may be posted for reduced weight during the Spring thaw.  If posted, closures will be posted to this States page.

Permitted loads will be restricted from travel on the following Holidays.  If a Holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is a legal Holiday.  If a Holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is a legal Holiday and these days are restricted as other Holidays.  The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles may further restrict the movement of over-legal size vehicles before and after certain Holidays if necessary.

Engineering Inspections & Fees

Loads or vehicles that exceed 100' long x 15' wide x 14' high and 150,000 lbs. or more may require an Engineering inspection if they are deemed excessive based on Route.  If an engineering inspection is required, an additional fee will be added to the cost of the Super-load permit.  Moves requiring an engineering study may take up to ten (10) additional working days to process from the date the completed requested is received for processing and approval.  The engineering survey will be valid for six (6) months, for any part of the approved route with loads of the same dimensions and weights/weight distribution or less.  This is subject to a minimal survey at the time of each permit application in order to confirm the validity of the move.

If the load is a manufactured home, the fee shall be $150.00.  For all other loads, the fee shall be $400.00 for any engineering inspection that requires up to eight (8) hours to conduct.  If the inspection requires more than eight (8) hours to conduct, the fee will be $400.00 plus an additional $60.00 per hour for every additional hour required.  During the six (6) month period that the survey is valid, the fee for the minimal survey shall be $20.00 in addition to the permit fee.
