Overhang Requirements:

Maximum legal overhang allowed is 3' (three feet) in front and 4' (four feet) in rear. Requires flags during day and mounted lights at night. Overhang exceeding these dimensions will require a over length permit.

Police Escorts:

$70.00 per hour - 4 hour minimum.

Permits Valid For:

Single Trip Permits are valid for five (5) travel days. (Excluding Saturday and Sunday)

Operating Time

Permitted loads are allowed travel from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, Monday through Friday.  Vehicles that are permitted for Over-weight only are permitted travel twenty-four (24) hours a day, Seven (7) days a week.

Weekend Travel

Loads that are permitted for over-size are restricted from travelling on Weekends.

Divisible Loads

Loads must be reasonably reduced to legal size and/or weight.


Off-the-road type equipment and haulers shall carry no additional attachments except for normal parts and accessories pertaining to the major item.  If the load can be reasonably reduced, attachments must be taken off.  Blades and buckets may be left attached if they are not easily removed.

Restricted Travel

Travel is Restricted through the city of Manchester from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Permits may be suspended specific periods on certain roads when loads exceed capacities imposed because of emergencies, frost, winter thaws or excessive rainy periods.  Permits will be void during periods of slippery pavement conditions or inclement weather creating hazardous driving conditions.

Spring Weight Restrictions

Weights are limited to 20,000 lbs. gross axle weight during Spring Restrictions.  Spring Restriction dates will be posted on this States page as they are released.

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are 90' long x 16' wide x 16' high and 150,000 lbs. or more are considered Super-loads.  Loads or vehicles that weight over 150,000 lbs. will go to review, and will require a drawing/diagram including number of axles, axle spacing, number of tires, tire width, and anticipated axle weights.  Super-load applications should be allowed between five (5) and ten (10) days for processing and approval.
