Police Escort
Prime responsibility of permitee to determine the need for police escort, which is automatically
required if permitee is not able to yield right of way to oncoming traffic or f vehicle/load
encroach into oncoming traffic and must be directed or controlled. Permitee is responsible for

Overhang Requirements:

Maximum legal overhang allowed is 3' (three feet) in front and 4' (four feet) in rear,
and rear overhang needs to be flagged during the day and lighted at night.
Overhang exceeding these dimensions will require a over length permit.

Police Escorts:

Minimum 2 Trooper at an average of $75.00 per hour.

Single trip permits are valid for five (5) consecutive days

Operating Time

Travel permitted from sunrise to sunset, during the summer months there is to be no movement from 2:00 p.m. on Friday to sunrise on Saturday. Also no movement is allowed from 2:00 p.m. the day before a holiday or holiday weekend until sunrise the day after that holiday or holiday weekend. Holidays that apply are as listed; Memorial Day, New Years Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Load must be broken down to its smallest dimension and/or weight.

Weekend Travel

Travel permitted all day Saturday and Sunday from sunrise to 12:00 noon (except no move after 2:00 p.m. every Friday beginning Memorial Day weekend thru the Friday after Labor Day). Also recognize and abide by Holiday restrictions.

Spring Weight Restrictions

Minnesota does not allow any shipments that are overweight per axle or axle group during spring, this restriction usually remains in place from March 1st through mid-May each year.

Superload Requirements

Loads of 140,000 lbs must submit drawings including axle weights and spacing, must also show which axle caster and show pivot points. Allow up to five (5) working days for processing.
