Vehicles that are between 80' - 115' long, 12' - 14' wide, and up to 14' high may travel under permit during daylight hours only (Sunrise to Sunset) with the exception of travel between the hours of 3:30 - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Vehicles over 14' wide and/or over 115' long may travel between the hours of 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and only on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Weekend Travel

Permitted loads are allowed to travel on Saturday and Sunday until 12:00 Noon.

Divisible Loads

Normally a permit may not be issued for over-size vehicles if, in the opinion of the authority, a load can be divided or arranged so as to conform with size limitations of 8'6ö wide and 13'8ö high.

Exceptions

Permitted loads must be reduced to their smallest possible size.  All pieces over 14' wide must be reduced as much as possible.  If a component which has been detached causes a load to be overweight, it must be shipped as a separate load.

Spring Weight Restrictions

There are no Seasonal Weight Restrictions for the State of Massachusetts.

Holiday Restrictions

Travel is restricted on the following days: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. No movement is allowed between 12:00 Noon the day preceding, and 12:00 Noon the day following these Holidays: New Years Day, Independence Day, and Christmas Day.

Permits will not be available for purchase on the above days, as well as the following days:  Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day. Although permit offices are closed on these days, travel is not restricted on these days.  Travel is only restricted on the days listed in the previous paragraph.

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are 115' long, 15' wide, 16' high, and 130,000 lbs. are considered Super-loads.  An application must be submitted in writing to the state and requires a full structure analysis.  Loads weighing over 130,000 lbs. require an outside engineering firm to do a route survey.  Super-load applications should be allowed up to thirty (30) days for processing and approval.
