Also: for weights over 80,000 lbs, add admin fee of $3.33 for permit issuance, not including costs charged by wire services for their services. Permit fees based on twenty-five (25) mile increments rounded up to the nearest dollar.

Overhang Requirements:

Maximum legal overhang allowed is 3' (three feet) front or rear.

Police Escorts:

$40.00 per hour per Trooper - 2 Trooper minimum. A $2.00 a mile fee is charged from the time the officer is on duty, starting from the officers residence, until the job is completed and he has returned to his residence.

Permits Valid For:

Single Trip Permits are valid for five (5) consecutive days.

Operating Time

Permitted loads can travel one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

Weekend Travel

Loads that are over 10' wide, but not exceeding 14' wide may travel until 12:00 noon on Saturdays.  Loads that are 10' wide and under, have legal trailer length, and do not exceed 14'6ö high may travel one-half hour before Sunrise to one-half hour after Sunset on Saturdays and Sundays.  Weekend travel must be requested on permit applications.

Divisible Loads

All permitted loads must be dismantled to the least possible dimensions and/or weight.

Exceptions

Blades, buckets, counterweights, etc. may be hauled attached up to 16' wide, only if cargo cannot be reduced (i.e. welded parts).  If parts can be detached, they may be shipped on the same vehicle.

Restricted Travel

Vehicles over 12' wide must travel between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m. from Tavernier south to Key West.  No movement is allowed from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in Hillsboro County and Dade County.  Movement will be prohibited at any time when visibility is impaired due to smoke, fog, rain, or when visibility is less than 1,000'.  Loads over 14' high or over 8'6ö wide are not allowed to travel on the Florida Turnpike.

Spring Weight Restrictions

There are no Seasonal weight restrictions for the State of Florida.

Holiday Restrictions

In the State of Florida, no movement will be allowed for loads over 80' long x 10' wide x 14'6ö high on the following dates:

  • New Years Day -  Friday December 31st, 2010 & Saturday January 1st, 2010
  • Memorial Day -  Monday May 30th, 2011
  • Independence Day -  Monday July 4th, 2011
  • Labor Day -  Monday September 5th, 2011
  • Thanksgiving -  Thursday November 24th, 2011 & Friday November 25, 2011
  • Christmas -  Sunday December 25th, 2011 & Monday December 26th, 2011

In addition to the above dates, the Florida Permit Office will also be closed the following days.  These days are not subject to the above travel restrictions:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day -  Monday January 17th, 2011
  • Veterans Day -  Friday November 11th, 2011

Superload Requirements

Loads or vehicles that are 150' long x 15' wide x 15' high and 199,000 lbs or more are considered Super-loads.  Super-load applications must be submitted in writing with information including axle spacing, weights and proposed route.  A route Survey is required for any shipment higher than 15' tall.

Route Survey Requirements

Route Surveys are required in writing, and must contain the following information:

  • Must be submitted on the haulers company letterhead.
  • Must state that the survey was completed by either a company escort car, or an escort company.
  • Must include a statement stating that the survey was done no more than seven (7) days prior to the submission of completed application.
  • Survey height must be at least six (6) inches above the height requested on the application.
  • The route on the survey letter must match the route requested on the application and must state that it was successfully cleared.
  • Must be signed by an authorized representative of the haulers company.
